Book Review: Shiver - Maggie Stiefvater

For years, Grace has been watching the wolves that live in the woods behind her house. Her wolf, a gorgeous yellow eyed wolf, has stood at the end of her garden, and Grace cannot seem to live without him.
Sam has lived two lives. His human life, and his… not so human life. In winter, every winter, Sam transforms into a beautiful yellow eyed wolf, protected by the trees. In the summer, he gets a few precious months of normal human life, before the weather gets colder, forcing him to shift back to his wolf form.
When Grace meets a mysterious yellow eyed boy, the familiarity between him and the wolf astonishes her. It can’t be him. But it seems like it is him. But, as winter approaches, Sam must fight to stay human for as long as he can, as shifting may risk losing his human self, and Grace forever.

This book is amazing. Having never read anything by Maggie Stiefvater before, I didn’t really know what to expect, especially as I hadn’t really read any sort of werewolf/shifter book before. But I will definitely be reading some of Maggie Stiefvater’s earlier titles, as well as some more werewolf/shifter books. This book flows really well, is written brilliantly, and will just make you want to read right to the end and then start again, all at once. Can Sam stay human for long enough, or will the cold change him back too soon? Find out in this supernatural love story, full of love, friendship, betrayal, humour, sadness, and most of all, beauty.

I give it 5 Feet!

  3. I didn't like this book very much. I found it a bit slow and the love story was a bit unrealistic. Personally, I don't think I'm going to read any of Maggie Stiefvater books again.

    But that's just my opinion.

Book Blogger Hop #4

It's that time again, for the Book Blogger Hop, hosted by Jennifer at Crazy For Books! It gives bloggers a chance to hop around and find some awesome new blogs to follow! I frequently find new books that I need to read, and it's a great way to make new friends! Click the link above to sign up! =] Where is your favourite place to read? Curled up on the sofa, in bed, in the garden? My answer: My favourite place to read is in the corner of our corner sofa in the living room, when my brother is playing the Xbox, because then, I can block out the sounds of him blowing things up and just get lost in a book. I can't read there though if the TV's on, as I'll just end up watching the programme instead! I also like reading in bed, but sometimes I'll find myself drifting off, so I don't read there very often! Title:  The Scorpio Races  Author:  Maggie Stiefvater Series:  Standalone Pages:  404 Publisher:  Scholastic Date of Publication:  25th October 2011 Source:  Publisher* Synopsis from Goodreads: It happens at the start of every November: the Scorpio Races. He is a young man of few words, and if he has any fears, he keeps them buried deep, where no one else can see them. Puck Connolly is different. She never meant to ride in the Scorpio Races. But fate hasn’t given her much of a chance. So she enters the competition — the first girl ever to do so. She is in no way prepared for what is going to happen.
